Collaboration with Eric Hilton, of Thievery Corporation

When I first started resør, the goal was simple: stop compromising. I wanted to build the kind of gear that felt like an extension of the music itself; tactile, warm, and built to last. When the opportunity to work with Eric Hilton came up, it felt like a meeting of two people who have spent their lives chasing the same ghost: that perfect, elusive, analog soul.

This Hi-Fi mixer preamplifier, the Trust a Thief Edition, is the result of a year of back and forth, countless emails and hours of video calls, and a shared obsession with the Golden Age of audio. We didn’t just want to make yet another tool. We wanted to create a legacy.

Most people know Eric as one-half of Thievery Corporation, the guys who essentially defined the Lounge sound of the last three decades. But for me, Eric is a sonic architect. From the Eighteenth Street Lounge music scene to his recent solo work like A Sky So Close, he’s always been about that specific intersection of dub, bossa nova, and cinematic textures.

When we sat down to talk, he wasn't asking for more bass or more treble. He was talking about the texture of the sound and the weight of the knobs. He wanted something that felt like the high end Hi-Fi consoles of the 1970s but designed with the audiophile grade capacitors selected for warmth, depth, and signal integrity, and unique aesthetics to fit in modern home or studio environments.

The collaboration was born out of a mutual respect for the old way of doing things. Eric had been looking for a mixer that captured the warmth of the vintage Hi-Fi gear but without the reliability headaches of 50 year old circuitry.

At resør, we specialise in discrete Class A circuitry, minimalistic design and a short signal path. We stripped everything back to the essentials and then rebuilt it using the best modern components available. The result is a mixer that has that "Thievery" warmth but with a level of transparency and headroom that only modern engineering can provide. It’s the best of both worlds, and I’m incredibly proud to put Eric's name on it.

I wrote this piece while listening to Eric’s latest vinyl release. It's beautiful! Check it out through his official shop.
